• Effect of EGDMA Content on Pervaporation Characteristics of PU/PMMA IPN Polymer Membrane

Abstract
Interpenetrating polymer network(IPN) membranes of polyurethane (PU) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cross linked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) were prepared and characterized with respect to swelling behavior and pervaporation for the benzene/cyclohexane mixtures through these membranes. In the result of tensile test, the membrane cross-linked with 10 wt% EGDMA showed the maximum tensile strength. The density was decreased when the content of EGDMA was more than 10 wt%. The electrical properties of the IPN membranes were also investigated by DEA. The PU/PMMA IPN membranes showed two broad glass transitions where the Tg values approached each other with increasing EGDMA contents. All of the membranes exibited high selectivities of benzene in the benzene/cyclohexane mixtures and the permeabilities of benzene increased with the concentration of benzene in the feed solutions. The swelling behaviors of membranes were depressed with the increasing contents of the crosslinking agent. This result in benzene/cyclohexane mixture leads to the increase of the selectivity for benzene. In particular, the membrane cross-linked with 15 wt% EGDMA showed excellent benzene selectivities in low concentration of benzene.

EGDMA로 가교 결합된 PMMA와 PU IPN막을 합성하고 벤젠과 사이클로헥산 혼합 용액에 대한 팽윤 실험과 투과증발 분리 특성을 알아보았다. 인장실험 결과 EGDMA 함량이 10wt%에서 최대값을 나타내었고 밀도는 EGDMA 함량이 10wt%이상에서 감소하였다. DEA에 의한 막들의 전기적 특성을 조사하여 막들의 유리 전이 변화를 알아본 결과 합성한 막들은 두 개의 완만한 유리 전이를 나타내었으며, EGDMA의 함량이 증가할수록 두개의 Tg는 서로 가까워졌다. 모든 막들은 벤젠/사이클로헥산 혼합 용액 중 벤젠에 대한 선택성을 나타내었으며, 유입 액의 벤젠 농도가 증가할수록 투과 속도는 증가하였다. 벤젠/사이클로헥산 혼합 용액에서 막의 팽윤은 가교 결합제의 함량이 증가할수록 감소하였다. 그 결과 벤젠에 대한 선택성은 증가하였고, 특히 15wt%의 EGDMA로 가교 결합된 막의 경우 저농도 벤젠 용액에서 높은 선택성을 나타내었다.
