Abstract
In this work a series of activated carbon fibers have been prepared by CO2 activation of oxidized PAN-based carbon fibers at 700, 800, 900 and 1000 ℃ for 2 hrs, respectively. The adsorption properties of the activated carbon fibers(ACFs) were studied as a function of the heat treatment temperature(HTT). The ACFs were characterized by N2 gas adsorption and pH value and acid-base values of the carbon surfaces. As a result, ACFs showed different BET surface areas, total pore volumes and pore size distributions, depending on activation conditions. Among them, the condition derived from temperature at 1000 ℃ for 2 hrs gave the highest BET surface area, total pore volume. When the activation temperature was less than 800 ℃, the surface of ACFs have been developed in acidic nature, but basic properties have increased in increasing the HTT at higher than 900 ℃.

본 연구에서는 산화 처리된 PAN계 탄소섬유를 사용하여 700, 800, 900 및 1000℃의 온도로 2시간동안 CO2를 유입 기체로 하여 각각 활성화시켰다. 이렇게 제조된 활성 탄소섬유의 흡착 특성을 활성화 온도에 따라 연구하였다. 활성 탄소섬유의 표면 특성은 N2 기체 흡착에 따라 측정하였으며, 그 표면 성질은 pH 및 Boehm의 선택중화법에 따른 표면 산도 및 표면 염기도를 측정하였다. 활성 탄소섬유의 BET 비표면적, 총 기공 부피 및 기공 크기 분포도 등은 활성화 온도에 따라 많은 차이를 나타내었으며, 본 실험의 활성화 조건 중 1000℃에서 활성화시킨 활성 탄소섬유의 BET 비표면적, 총 기공 부피가 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 또한 활성화 온도는 활성 탄소섬유의 표면 성질에도 많은 영향을 주는데 활성화 온도가 800℃ 이하인 경우 활성 탄소섬유의 표면 성질은 약한 산성을 띠며, 900℃ 이상의 고온에서 활성화된 활성 탄소섬유는 염기성을 나타내었다.
