Abstract

Sulfone-containing aromatic polyimides were prepared by chemical imidization using aromatic diamine and dianhydride as monomers. Polymers were synthesized through molecular design based on various monomer combinations for potential use as binders for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Solubility in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) for slurry production, insolubility in electrolyte, binding to current collector, and glass transition in a wide temperature range were evaluated for stable use in various process conditions and environments. The resulting polymers were all insoluble in the electrolyte and strongly adhered to copper and aluminum foils. As the rotational freedom and the degree of being kinked of the polymer chain increased, the solubility in NMP increased and the glass transition temperature (Tg) decreased. When the effect of hybridization state of the central element in the main chain on the rotational freedom and the effect of linkage position on the degree of being kinked were arbitrarily quantified, a specific relationship was established with Tg. This study is expected to provide a key molecular design guideline for construction of a binder-material library for LIBs by clarifying the correlation between the molecular structure and physical properties of sulfone-containing polyimides.


방향족 다이아민과 이무수산을 단위체로 사용하여 화학적 이미드화법으로부터 설폰함유 방향족 폴리이미드를 제조하였다. 리튬이온 이차전지용 바인더로써의 잠정적인 사용을 위해 다양한 단위체 조합을 기반으로 한 분자설계를 통해 폴리머를 합성하였다. 슬러리제조를 위한 NMP에 대한 용해성, 전해액에 대한 불용성, 집전체에 대한 결착력, 다양한 공정조건과 환경에서의 안정적인 사용을 위한 폭넓은 범위에서의 유리전이온도(Tg)를 평가하였다. 생성 폴리머는 모두 전해액에 불용이었고 구리와 알루미늄박에 강하게 부착되었다. 폴리머 사슬의 회전자유도와 굴곡성이 증가할수록 NMP에 대한 용해도는 증대되었고 Tg는 감소하였다. 특히, 폴리머 사슬의 회전자유도에 영향을 미치는 “결합중심원소의 혼성상태”와 굴곡성에 영향을 미치는 “연결위치”를 임의로 수치화하여 Tg와의 연관성을 밝혔다. 본 연구는 설폰함유 폴리이미드의 분자구조와 물성 간의 상관관계를 명확히 함으로써 이차전지 바인더 소재의 라이브러리 구축을 위한 핵심 분자설계지침을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
